Pastors Pen

When Leonardo da Vinci was painting the “Last Supper,” he had an intense and bitter argument with a fellow painter. Leonardo was so enraged, that he decided to paint the face of his enemy into the face of Judas. That way the hated painter’s face would be preserved for ages in the face of the betraying disciple. When Leonardo finished Judas, everyone could easily recognize the face of the painter with whom Leonardo had the quarrel.

Leonardo continued to work on the painting. But as much as he tried, he could not paint the face of Christ. Something was holding him back. Leonardo decided his hatred toward his fellow painter was the problem. So, he worked through his hatred by repainting Judas’ face, replacing the image of his fellow painter with another face. Only then was he able to paint Jesus’ face and complete the masterpiece.

Hebrews 12:15 (ESV) See to it that no one fails to obtain the grace of God; that no “root of bitterness” springs up and causes trouble, and by it many become defiled;

So excited to have the Marshalls this week as we learn more about Ukraine.

Meet the Missionaries

Randy and Shelley Marshall serve with One Mission Society in Kyiv, Ukraine. Their main focus is disciple-making, and they use English to serve Ukrainians and to make new contacts. They organize English camps during the summer for university students and offer weekly English clubs at a Kyiv university. For students or adults of any age who become spiritually interested, they offer Discovery Bible Studies to help them investigate the claims of Jesus, and they gather those who want to follow him into worshiping home groups called Life Groups. Their goal is to see the existing network of Life Groups grow and multiply as Ukrainians reach their friends and families with the Good News.

On October 1 & 2 Randy and Shelly Marshal will be joining us for the weekend services. Saturday morning we will be having a 9:30 continental breakfast reception. If you would like to join us, RSVP by calling 684-7511.
