Pastor’s Pen

I am going to be baptized this Saturday evening. Yes, I have been baptized before. I was baptized as a believer when I was 19. Baptism is a wonderful symbol of an inward work and baptism does not save us. It didn’t save me then and will not now. I was saved when I put my trust in Jesus, His death on the cross, I repented of sin and put my full trust in Jesus as Savior and Lord.

A little background on my decision:

When I began working on the Majesty Mindset series, I sensed there would be those who would want to be baptized for the first time, with the understanding that they were fully identifying with Jesus’ death and His resurrection, understanding that the old man is dead. They are learning to be accustomed to this new life with Jesus.

Second, I sensed that some would want to enter the waters of baptism after having already been baptized, whether as a child or years ago because the act of baptism didn’t represent to them what it means now. As I have preached in this series and mentioned the true meaning of baptism I sensed Holy Spirit say, “That includes you, your baptism didn’t mean what it should have because of the lack of depth of your walk with me at that time.”

At first, when the thought came I was worried about what people would think, “What, our pastor is being baptized?” But regardless of what anyone thinks or even if I am the only one, I will do this in obedience.  I never want there to be a gap between what I preach and what I live. So, I will ask two of the elders of Grace to baptize me and I plan on living the rest of my life as a dead man.

Can’t wait to see you this weekend. Excited that David and Marietta Wright will be joining us.
