Pastors Pen

Our attitudes change everything either good or bad. We have the power to choose our

own attitudes.  Jesus in His Sermon on the Mount gave us an example of eight attitudes

we must choose in order to be blessed and live in a sense of joy and happiness.

We have worked through two of these attitudes and will work on the third this weekend.

Let me share them here from the Amplified Translation (Matthew 5:3-5):

“Blessed [spiritually prosperous, happy, to be admired] are the poor in spirit [those

devoid of spiritual arrogance, those who regard themselves as insignificant], for

theirs is the kingdom of heaven [both now and forever].

“Blessed [forgiven, refreshed by God’s grace] are those who mourn [over their sins

and repent], for they will be comforted [when the burden of sin is lifted].

Here is the attitude we will work on this week –  “Blessed [inwardly peaceful,

spiritually secure, worthy of respect] are the gentle [the kind-hearted, the sweet-

spirited, the self-controlled], for they will inherit the earth.

Here is what I want you to consider today…. what if each of these attitudes are character

blocks, one building on another to prepare us for what Jesus introduces at the end of the

eight attitudes? In verses 10-12 Jesus tells us that we should expect to be persecuted as

His followers.  I have been pondering what Jesus maybe saying, if we fail to develop

these attitudes of poor in spirit, spiritual mourning, meekness, and so on as building

blocks to our character then we will never be able to handle persecution when it comes.

Excited to share with you this weekend.
