Pastor's Pen

From the desk of
Pastor Stephanie
Sometimes saying Yes to the promise of God begins by saying No to something else.
Someone once told me that whenever a new opportunity came to her, she would consider that opportunity and whether or not participating in it would help her accomplish the mission God had given her. If it didn’t, even if it was a very good thing to do, she wouldn’t do it.
We live in a world of far too many opportunities! So much is vying for our time. Not everything trying to take our time and focus away from “Seek first the Kingdom of God” so that we can receive the promise of “and all these things shall be added unto you” is bad, but is it helping us receive all God wants to give us? Does the promotion at work, which would give me more money and a position of authority but take away from time with my family and the Lord, help me or hinder me from saying Yes to God? ‘’ Is volunteering for everything at my child’s school or in my community hindering me from saying Yes to what God wants to do for, in and through me or is it part of my ministry? Those of us with kids in our homes have to decide how many of the opportunities that our kids have can we say Yes to before that becomes a No to what God wants to do in our families.
Your Yes might look different than mine and my No might look different than yours. In every opportunity that comes our way, let’s ask Holy Spirit will a Yes to this help or hinder me from receiving the promises of God in my life.
